Are Affirmations The Answer People Think They Are?
Mindset and affirmations have been the buzzwords in the healing and growth space for quite some time. We've all heard the promises; repeat affirmations enough, and you'll transform your mindset, which in turn will transform your life. It's a tempting idea, right? Which is why so many of us jumped on the affirmation bandwagon, hoping for that magical shift. But is it really that simple? Let's find out by diving deeper into all of this.

When Affirmations Start to Backfire
For me, affirmations did nothing. The promise was not fulfilled. I spent years writing and rewriting affirmations, trying different ways to frame them, and plastering them around my home to keep them top of mind. Yet, despite my best efforts, nothing changed. In fact, I felt worse. Frustration set in because the promised transformation never came.
This led me to question why I felt worse. Wasn't this supposed to be the key to a positive, happy life? The answer was right there, if I allowed myself to see it, I felt worse because I was trying to convince myself of things I didn’t truly believe. Said another way, my subconscious beliefs were at odds with the affirmations I was repeating.
I realized that I could say affirmations all day, but if I didn't address what was lurking in my subconscious mind and trapped in my body, mindset work and affirmations were pointless. Think about it. How could I believe those affirmations when my subconscious beliefs were completely different? How could I feel the way I was telling myself to feel when my body was full of unprocessed emotions?
The answer is simple, I couldn't. I couldn’t because the gap between affirmations, limiting beliefs, and stored emotions was too big to bridge with words alone. Real transformation meant digging into the root of my limiting beliefs and letting them go. It meant tuning into my body to release trapped emotions and trauma.
